Our checklist for getting sun ready!

holiday essentials

Following my spray tan last week I got thinking about my forthcoming holiday and the prospect of actual sun. Words like SPF, deep moisturiser and shimmer oil all began swirling around in my head and the sun holiday check list began to formulate. Between making music compilations and soundtracks to each holiday every year, I like to feel that I’ve become something of an old pro for packing and fine tuning the beauty necessities. On that note I’ve put together some beauty must haves for this years attempt at escapism….

First up is ‘Nuxe SPF 30 Creme delicieuse Visage Haute Protection’. Apart from the lovely honey smell this product ticks a number of boxes. Water resistant, protects from UVA / UVB damage and premature skin aging, it gives the appearance of a natural tan instead of a white film that usually sits after the application of these kind of products, it hydrates and soothes and best of all the product has rice powder in it which helps prevent shine! As with most sun creams this needs to be reapplied throughout the day for optimum protection and seeing as it is only a factor 30 you may want to invest in something slightly stronger if in intense sun for prolonged periods!

Next is La Roche Posay Anthelios XL. What I love about this product is that it is very lightweight – almost like a milk, it doesn’t feel greasy, is perfect for my combination skin, absorbs quickly and works really well under my makeup. It offers a broad spectrum protection and actually absorbs to a matte finish with a velvety feeling. This is my must have for the summer months!Unfortunately at €19.50 it is a little pricey, but a little of this stuff goes a long way.

Next is something that’s been on the market for a while now and I personally really love. For anyone who like myself who has slathered themselves in baby oil for that J-Lo effect this is a Godsend 🙂 Clarins Shimmer Oil (€37) is great for night time to accentuate a tan. It smells amazing and has just the right amount of a subtle shimmer. Don’t be terrified by the thick golden concoction you see in the bottle as it spreads nice and evenly and absorbs almost immediately.  Just swipe along the arms, legs, shoulders, decollete etc for a fabulous sun kissed glow. Yes, this is slightly on the more expensive side of body oil (or baby oil 🙂 ) but is loaded with nourishing and smoothing agents and it smells delicious so the choice is yours…..

Finally I’ve added Ziaja Sensitive Micellar Water (€4.49) to the list, which is great for gently removing makeup or any remaining sun cream after a day in the sun. It’s gloriously refreshing and also does the job of a toner without the harsh chemicals which makes it totally suitable for sensitive skin. This light and refreshing one stop product is ideal for popping into the holiday washbag!

Do you have any additions you would suggest for my back pack? – as always please let us know!

We got this question in today and thought we would share it with you:

    Question:
Hey Orlaith, Great piece! I was actually looking at the La Roche product today, the boots online description of it says the following; "Anthelios products all have a high PPD (Persistent Pigment Darkening) factor" does this mean that it prevents tanning while protecting your skin or are you still able to tan while wearing it?

    Answer:
PPD is a method of measuring UVA protection in sunscreen. The higher the PPD the more time you can spend in the sun, the more you are protected. You will still tan lightly, but without burning
