A couple of weeks ago, I was introduced to a brand new product range called Merumaya Integrative Effective Skincare. Merumaya was the brainchild of Maleka Dattu, a very enchanting woman who has had much success in her 27 years working in the cosmetic industry. She has worked in the corporate sector of many of our most beloved brands including Clinique, Origins and Lancome. She was recognised as the Cosmetic Executive Women’s Achiever of the Year in 2006. Her father had instilled an entrepreneurial spirit in her and so in 2010 she decided to fulfil her dream and began the creation of Merumaya.
I was delighted to meet Maleka recently, I found her positive, determined energy really resonated with me. As a fellow entrepreneur I could see the passion she has for this industry and her products. When I left the meeting I was really hoping that I liked the products as much as I liked Maleka herself. Well I am delighted to say I wasn’t disappointed.
As I am sure you all know by now, I am a lover of scented products, which is one of the reasons I am not mad about Clinique. I just like the luxury and ritual of skincare, that tickles the senses. I can safely say that I am in love with the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm and it is something that I will re-purchase. I know that they have been around a while, but I have never got around to trying any of the cleansing balms that are already on the market. I was always a cream cleanser, toner and moisturiser kind of girl, shying away from anything to do with water. My how things have changed.
I have been using the Melting Cleansing Balm (RRP €18.50) every morning and night. To use, you squeeze out a small amount of product from the tube. You massage the balm with dry fingers onto the face. After this you mix in a small amount of water and bring to a lather. Then use a warm damp facecloth to remove all the product. By the time I have done all these steps, all my make-up from the day was removed and my skin felt soft, supple and most importantly clean without that tight feeling. I actually look forward to washing my face now, I feel that it helps me to relax just before I go to bed.
The next part of my new skin care routine is the Intensively Youthful Eyecream (RRP €30.50). unfortunately this doesn’t smell so nice, it kind of reminds me of the smell of mushrooms for some reason. I am sure that it is unscented because you are applying it in the eye area, so I would excuse that, especially seeing as it is so effective. I found that in the few short weeks that I have been using the skincare range I have genuinely seen an improvement in the eye area. I have never been concerned with wrinkles as I am only 29 (turning 30 this year – eek!), but I have noticed in the last year or two the slightest hint of what is to come in the shape of some fine lines. This eyecream seems to have softened them out to the point that I can barely notice them under close scrutiny. I think I will definitely keep using this.
The final product that I have been using is the Iconic Youth Serum (RRP €43.10), this has 10 active ingredients at full concentrate which makes skin appear youthful and vibrant. The fact that they are at full concentrate is interesting to me. What most people don’t realise is that a lot of products on the market which claim to have x ingredients that have y results in clinical trials don’t necessarily contain the said ingredient in the same proportion as the clinical trial. Which means for the consumer you can be getting a watered down version of the active ingredients that garnered the results that you are looking for. This is of course the joys of marketing and spin, check out Beauty and the Bullshit if you would like to learn more about this. So Maleka really wants to stand behind her products and is ensuring that all the active ingredients are used in the correct quantities to get you results. I found the gel based serum soaked easily into my skin and was enough hydration to keep my skin feeling and looking good. As my skin is combination I felt that I didn’t need a moisturiser with it.
Another great point about the Merumaya range is that all the skincare is designed with the adult who suffers from the odd spot in mind. I always shied away from anti-aging products as they made my skin oily and I would inevitably get breakouts, Maleka has ensured that all of the products are integrated with anti-blemish formulas for opposing needs. They will not exacerbate blemish prone skins, include spot reducing ingredients which will not undermine anti-ageing efforts either.
I really loved this range of products and I am sure you will too. Merymaya launched in October 2012 and the range is set to hit Irish shores this month, so get yourselves down to Arnotts and try some. I will be heading there myself to grab the daily cleansing cloths (RRP €15.50) which is a set of 7 facecloths with the days of the week written on them. I think this so handy and will mean the temptation to keep using a dirty facecloth will be out out of the question.
Let me know if you are going to try them or if you have tried any of the products yourself.
Lots of love,
