Beauty News: Inglot Creator Dies

By | Beauty News, Inglot, Uncatagorized | No Comments

Inglot FounderSad news today as I learned that Wojciech Inglot, Polish chemist and founder of the global cosmetics company Inglot, died Feb. 23 at age 57.

It is relatively new to Ireland, but the Polish brand has been around a long time and was an international success with nearly 400 stores in 50 countries.

Inglot died unexpectedly Saturday after suffering internal hemorrhaging, a longtime friend of Inglot’s and associate of the company, Mariusz Ziomecki, told The Associated Press. Inglot was rushed to a hospital in Przemysl, the eastern Polish city where his cosmetics are produced, but doctors were unable to save him.

Inglot was born in Przemysl on June 11, 1955. He studied chemistry at Krakow’s prestigious Jagellonian University. After graduation he began his first chemical manufacturing operation in 1983, when Poland was still under communist rule.

After Poland began its transition to a market economy in 1989, Inglot turned to producing cosmetics, finding success first at home and then internationally with a range of nail polishes, eye shadows and other products. Today the Inglot logo can be seen large-scale at Times Square in New York City and the cosmetics are sold in nearly 400 boutiques and malls in some 50 countries, including at Macy’s.

I hope that his legacy continues on, even though his life was cut short so young. RIP.

Beauty News: Katie Perry Hair and Makeup at the Grammy Awards

Katy Perry at the Grammy Awards 2013

I just received this press release, so I thought I would share it with you in my Beauty News section this week. Katie Perry was rocking the Rimmel London Look at the Grammy Awards.

Jake Bailey is Katy’s go to make-up artist and gave her a gorgeous and elegant make-up look. Known for her outlandish hair and make-up experiments, Katy went for a much more subdued demure look. Focusing on the eyes mainly, Jake began by using Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Black to define her lashline.

He then used Rimmel Glameyes Trio Eye Shadow in Orion to give them subtle definition and completed the eyes with some false eyelashes and a generous coat of Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara in Black.

Jake then perfected Katy Perry’s skin by mixing Rimmel BB Cream in Light with Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation in Ivory.

The BB cream helps to sheer out the foundation and gives it a gorgeous glow perfect for the red carpet or any event. I like to do this for photoshoots when I am trying to give the appearance of dewy fresh skin, when the model has good skin themselves and I don’t need too much coverage. To warm up Katy’s face he then added the finishing touch of Rimmel Lasting Finish Blush in Pink Rose on the apple of her cheeks which gives a very subtle pinch of colour to her face.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in #003 was the lipstick used. This is a fantastic nude, which is perfect when you are trying to keep the focus on someones eyes. All Rimmel products are really easy to find all over Ireland from local chemists to Boots.

Her hair was blow dried straight, with an emphasis on volume. I love this GHD Root Lift spray when I am trying to create a fuller style. You can get it  at Terence Paul a site in the UK.

What do you think of this look?

Lots of love,

Beauty News: CC Creams the new BB Wonder Product?

By | Beauty News, Uncatagorized | 2 Comments

CC Cream

One of the biggest beauty product trends I can remember of late is BB creams. Just about every company in the beauty industry has released one of these tinted multi-tasking make-up/skin creams. So the news on the beauty wire is that there is something new coming that is going to take over. The latest skin trend to come out of Asia, which reckons that it is bigger and better than the BB Cream is the CC Cream.

So what is a CC Cream? It stands for Color Control cream and is an improved and refined Beauty Balm created and developed in Korea. It repairs damage, evens skin tone & texture, firms & improves elasticity, reduces fine lines & wrinkles, creates a radient complexion, balances skin tone and is rich in anti-oxidants.

olay-cc-creamSo what is the difference between a CC cream and the BB Cream? As we know the beauty balms are a skincare and light foundation in one, they are dewy and hydrating, but they sit on the skin as they are mostly silicone based. The CC Cream is a color correcting cream, meaning that it is a brightening primer, foundation, moisturizer, SPF and anti-aging cream in one and is absorbed into the skin. It treats and covers uneven skintone by reducing pigmentation. They are usually sillicone and oil free. I always found that there just wasn’t enough coverage in the Beauty Balms, so I never got hooked to them. I am really looking forward to trying the CC Creams as they are supposed to have better coverage too.

What do you think? Reckon this is a fad or could this be the holy grail? Have you tried them? Look forward to hearing from you.

Beauty News: Lancôme x Alber Elbaz

Hello lovelies!

So news hot off the press from Lancôme is that they are going to collaborate with Alber Elbaz. Here is a bit of the buzz from their press release:

Lancôme is delighted to announce an exceptional collaboration with one of the most highly-acclaimed names in fashion: Alber Elbaz.

More than any other designer, he has shown his ability to renew conceptions of femininity with a simultaneously quirky and couture style, creating a breed of luxury that is definitively contemporary. His approach is naturally in tune with Lancôme, a brand symbolic of joyful femininity.

“Alber Elbaz is, without a doubt, one of the world’s most influential fashion designers. But beyond that, he is also the most talented, explains Youcef S. Nabi, Lancôme President. His sense of luxury, his vision of femininity and that hint of audacity resonate perfectly with the new values of the Maison Lancôme. We are extremely proud and happy that, with us, he is set to channel his universe into the world of make-up for the very first time.”

So who is this legendary designer that they are so happy to be working with?

According to Wikipedia, Elbaz was born in June 12th 1961 Casablanca, Morocco. He immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of eight months and grew up in Holon. After serving in the Israeli Defense Forces, he studied at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Ramat Gan.

In 1985, Elbaz moved to New York City and spent two years working for a manufacturer of mother-of-the-bride clothing. He then worked for Geoffrey Beene for seven years.

In 1997, Elbaz left Beene and, through retailer Dawn Mello, was hired by the firm of Guy Laroche. But, by the time of Elbaz’s arrival, the Laroche enterprise had become overly conservative and lackluster. Even so, Elbaz was able to update the collection and somewhat enhance the image of the firm, whose activities at the time included the management of 15 boutiques and 70 license agreements worldwide. However, he departed within a year, 1998, and began designing ready-to-wear women’s clothing for Yves Saint Laurent, because Saint-Laurent himself wished to withdraw from his hands-on design of prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear). In the position, Elbaz’s talent was recognized, and he was groomed to become the head designer of the house when Saint Laurent retired. This was not to happen, because the Gucci Group purchased YSL Rive Gauche, the ready-to-wear label, and, hence, Gucci design director Tom Ford dismissed Elbaz after three collections. Elbaz instead began working for Krizia in Italy and designed a well-received inaugural collection.

In October 2001, Elbaz was appointed artistic director of Lanvin in Paris. In August 2001, the company was purchased by investor group Harmonie S.A., led by Shaw-Lan Wang, a Taiwanese media magnate, who hired Elbaz. In 2006, he introduced new packaging for the fashion house. In 2012, Elbaz published a book of 3,000 photographs documenting the work of Lanvin.

It seems fitting that such a powehouse in the fashion industry would pair up with such an iconic make-up brand. The highly anticipated Lancôme x Alber Elbaz collection will be unveiled worldwide on June 15th 2013 and I for one cannot wait!

What do you guys think? Are you excited 🙂

Lots of love,
