The Best Couples Halloween Costumes

Couples Costumes for Halloween

With Halloween fast approaching everyone wants to have the best and most original costume ideas. This can get even harder when you’re trying to make this a couples thing. Be it two friends or boy and girl it can be pretty tough to get that perfect balance of current and clever. I’ve put together a few different ideas for this year to help you get you thinking…

Garth and Wayne from Waynes World are simple to recreate and an instantly recognisable duo.

Batman and Robin are a timeless pair who have gone through years of reinvention. The most recognisable still being the 60’s TV show.  The girls can also go the ‘sexy’ route with this….Not that I’m a fan of the ‘sexy’ route and I prefer a little more gore to gamey.

With the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles making a comback this year April O’Neill and a Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle combo could be just the ticket.

1950’s grey scale is one of my favourite ideas as is visually really cool and pretty simple from a makeup point of view as all you really use are combinations of black and white facepaint and shadows.

Their relationship has been a topic for discussion for many years but there are no ‘happy couple’ quite like our Sesame Street pals Bert and Ernie 🙂

Anyone a fan of Juno?Nothing says pop culture reference like dressing up as Juno and Paulie Bleaker.

Ben Stiller and Russian Fran Stalinovskovichdavidovitchsky from Dodgeball are my personal Favourite 🙂 , bringing a little humour and fun to Halloween.

Mork and Mindy may be a popular one this year in tribute to the recently passed Robin Williams.

For the boys…why not go for Nidge and Fran, two of our favourite Love Hate troublemakers?!

Finally, the all time classic of Sandy and Danny from Grease will always be a winner for me 🙂 I’m not sure if it’s a generational thing but I don’t think I’ve seen as many of them around this last few years.

I hope these help and if there are any ideas that you have we would love to hear them!

What makeup will we be wearing this year? London Fashion week in a nutshell!

By | Beauty Lowdown, Beauty News, Fashion, Fashion Brands, Orlaith Shore, The Team, Trend Alert | No Comments

best trends from london fashion week

Every year we look to fashion week eagerly anticipating new trends and plucking the most memorable, wearable looks for the year ahead and thankfully this London Fashion Week passed did not fail to disappoint! Here are a few to watch out for!

The purple eyeshadow is back it would seem! Varying from softer pinks and lilac tones, a wash  of colour completely over the eye was spotted on a number of catwalks this year not forgetting to mention the use of coloured liner below the bottom lash line.

purple eyes

Staying on the subject of eyes Tom Ford brought us some amazing disco inspired and Debbie Harry styled charcoal eyes. Naturally the queen of  the ‘smokey eye’ Charlotte Tilbury was the only woman for this job and the results were stunning, coining her glistening silver creation the ‘smoky oval eye’ 🙂 and brows are most definitely still big in every sense of the word!

smokey eyes and strong brow

Smeared ‘just kissed’ berry lips were the order of the day and for me my absolute favourite of all the makeup elements with Burberry and Topshop Unique making this their main focus. just kissed lips

Gorgeous dewy skin was  most predominantly featured and we can place our bets now on seeing beautiful, highlighted skin and lots of gloss in Spring/Summer 2015! Gloss and Glitter! One artist that nailed this look is
the head artist for Xiao Li, pairing a stunning on trend pink with luminous skin.

Luminous skin

Then there was the glitter….ALL the glitter 🙂 In clothes, makeup, hair glitter is here to stay well after the Christmas season so watch this space!

Some of these trends I love and think are super wearable however the jury is still out on purple shadow, I love a soft pink myself but purple might not work on some skin tones….lets just wait and see! If there is anything you may have spotted over the last week that we have missed as always we would love to hear!

How to grow longer, thicker eyelashes

By | Beauty Lowdown, Orlaith Shore, The Team, Uncatagorized | No Comments

grow back eyelashes

For anyone who has ever had eyelash extensions and loved them and been clever enough to maintain and get refilled regularly then this isn’t for you. However, if you got them and never got around to refilling them and gradually watched them fall out (your lashes with them ) as they became more sparse and irritating and you grew increasingly frustrated by the long randomly pointing hairs on your lid that you pulled off….. then this is definitely for you

Here comes the science part (I’m sorry I couldn’t help myself).

Not everyone knows this but….human hairs grow in three stages. The first stage of eyelashes grow back is known as ‘anagen phase’ which lasts between 30 and 45 days, during which they grow continually without falling off, unless forced to fall off or you pull them off :/. Next up is the second phase, scientifically known as the ‘catagen phase’ . Basically this is a transition stage during which the eyelash has actually stopped growing  and the root is strengthening . This stage lasts for about 2 to 3 weeks and there is no growing back during this stage if they do fall off or are ahem…pulled….sadly you will be without any until this stage has passed.

The third and final stage the eyelash goes through is the ‘tolegen phase’.  During this phase, they will rest for around 100 days without falling. Afterwards, they will start falling off. Even with a slight pull, you will notice the them falling off. If you lose eyelashes at this stage, expect quicker eyelash grow back than the second or first phase since it is part of the normal circle of hair replacement.

Essentially what I’m saying is the amount of time that it will take to grow back is dependent on the stage of growth it was plucked out. In theory this could range anything from a few weeks to a couple of months depending on the stage during which you lost them (in my case pulled out due to complete frustration, irritation and lack of patience – please don’t do this!). So now – HOW DO I GROW THEM BACK ASAP 🙂

Personally my preferred way for longer eyelashes and to have them back quickly is the natural way and in my opinion is just as good. Using oils that you already have as Vaseline (pure petroleum jelly), castor oil, or olive oil. You will rub the oil slightly on your index finger and thumb before applying it carefully without the oils getting into your eyes but massaging into the roots as much as you can. Do this once all remnants of makeup have been removed

And some extra pointers…

  • DON’T USE FALSE LASHES
  • ld gently pat on them with a cotton pad soaked in a baby oil (it’s brilliant and doubles as a makeup remover and conditioner), avoiding rubbing or pulling at your eyes
  • Never go to bed with your eye makeup on.
  • Do without mascara and eyeliner when possible  to give your eyelashes time to breathe.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes as much as possible.
  • Avoid using dried out mascara or very old mascara. Mascara should last for about 2 to 4 months and after that, you have to dispose it, even if it looks good.
  • Minimize use of eyelash curlers, especially for people who have delicate ones that break easily.

I hope this was helpful for those of you have gone through a lash hell similar to myself 🙂

Any other tips would be gratefully received so please comment below if you have any!

How to achieve a flawless, dewy skin finish

By | Beauty Lowdown, MAC Cosmetics, Nars, Orlaith Shore, The Team | No Comments

dewy skin makeupI’m not sure if it’s confidence that has come with age or just that I know more about what actually looks good makeup-wise but a light foundation with a gorgeous skin finish is all I ever look for these days. Of course with certain looks for the evening or if going for a vintage feel there is a place for an ultra matt, sculpted face but just not for my daytime. Read More

How to improve your mood

So it’s Tuesday not just any Tuesday….the Tuesday following a Bank Holiday weekend…. eeeeeekkkkk :/

We are meant to be saving and dieting for that forthcoming holiday but unfortunately the sun came out and we may have over indulged a little at the weekend. However it wasn’t just any weekend….it was a Bank Holiday weekend. One full of prosecco, Bulmers (for some) , beer gardens, late night food and receipts for a round of cocktails that you definitely couldn’t afford. Sound all too familiar? In an attempt to be prepared for the inevitable rethink of priorities while aimlessly scrolling down your FB newsfeed or on the bus  this Tuesday I’ve tried to put together a little list of some scientifically proven methods to cushion the blow… you’re welcome. Glamping tent image

With wedding season in full swing and my fair share to attend I have started to put some very quick checklists together to ensure that nothing gets left behind on my way out the door. These days weddings are no longer made to fit a mold nor as traditional as they used to be. People’s personalities are allowed to break through and create a day that is individual to them, this means that for many the comfort of a hotel is no longer always part of the picture. From glamping to self catering houses on a country estate here’s a checklist for those things you might not necessarily think of when grabbing your deodorant as you make sure the straighteners is turned off and switch on the alarm!
